ESB International
ESB International (ESBI) is a growing international energy
company and one of Europe's leading engineering and consultancy
organisations.
Aquamarine Power is one of four technology developers
participating in the Irish WestWave project, led by ESBI. The
WestWave project aims to install and operate wave energy converters
capable of generating 5MW of clean electricity in Irish waters by
2015.
ESBI was founded in Ireland over 35 years ago. ESBI
invests in, develops, owns, operates and maintains power stations
in Ireland and around the world. ESBI also trades electricity
in competitive European energy markets.
ESBI has completed projects in over 115 countries. The company
employs over 1,200 professional staff between its offices in
Ireland and abroad. ESBI has active operations in over 20
countries, including strategic operation and maintenance contracts
totalling over 2,800MW.
In addition to investments in over 2,300MW of installed capacity
and a similar amount in development, ESBI also has 146MW of
renewable wind energy plant installed, 164MW under construction and
a further pipeline of 740MW planned for Ireland, UK and Spain.
Ireland has an unique opportunity to generate electricity from the vast wave energy resource on the west coast. ESBI is working with pioneering wave energy companies such as Aquamarine Power to make this vision a reality.
