Aquamarine Power: A great place to work
6 Apr 11 - Martin McAdam, CEO
Last week Aquamarine Power was awarded two trophies by the Great
Place To Work Institute. The awards are as a result of our
anonymous staff survey and audits conducted by the Great Place to
Work Institute. The awards we were honoured with are:
Leadership Excellence Award. 1st Place.
This is awarded for "caring and creative management teams
focused on improving the quality of the workplace experience of
employees. We want to highlight outstanding leaders that
demonstrate strong leadership qualities by being accessible to
employees encouraging dialogue, and integrity in matching words
with action."
Scotland's Best Workplaces Award: 2nd Place.
"To win the Great Place to Work Institute is looking for an
organisation that is accessible to employees and where the
management serve as an example for open and honest communication
across the enterprise...We're looking for a company where the staff
feel good about coming to work in the morning and where that
feeling translates into real momentum for the organisation as a
whole."
A great result
I think this is a great result for our business. The award
recognises the unique culture here at Aquamarine Power,
particularly the high level of respect, trust and pride we have in
our workplace. It recognises the fact that everyone in our business
has a voice and is empowered to challenge and be challenged. The
environment we work in is supportive - this allows us to do
something which has not been done before.
Personal commitment
The personal commitment of every member of staff and the
openness in communication right through our business has created
and stimulated a very strong team spirit - this is what gives us
the edge and has made us a Great Place to Work.
While everyone participated in this - through the survey and the
audit - I would especially like to recognise Linsey Morrice, our
Human Resources Assistant, who did most of the work in preparing
the culture audit and responding to the various requests for
information raised.
We have set the bar high. Our challenge is to keep it at this high
level. I'd like to thank all the team at Aquamarine Power for
their contribution - this award is for you!
