Fossil fuel funds a welcome boost

Today's announcement of the release of over £200 million fossil
fuel funds from Ofgem to the Scottish Government and the
Green Investment Bank is very welcome news, and both the Scottish
and UK Governments should be congratulated for making this happen.
Scotland has immense potential to build a strong economic future
based on renewable energy and these funds can provide a vital boost
to our growing wind, wave and tidal sectors.
The coming decade will require tens of billions of pounds of
investment - not only to accelerate the commercialisation of our
world-leading marine energy and offshore wind sectors - but to
rewire Scotland so it can become a net energy exporter in the
decades ahead. The fossil fuel funds and the Green Investment Bank
will both play crucial roles in leveraging the private sector
investment this exciting new future will bring.
