Work continues at pace at BiFab

Oyster 800 wave energy converter under construction

Work continues at pace at Burntisland Fabrications (BiFab) in Methil where the pieces of the Oyster 800 are finally coming together. It's one thing to see the Oyster on a drawing or in a presentation, but quite another to see it in the flesh. I never fail to be impressed by the scale and engineering that has gone into making this happen.

At present the castings from China are arriving and are being fitted to the Oyster, in a pre-determined sequence. The team at BiFab continue to do a great fabrication job and continue to impress with the quality of the welding.

And as the photo shows, on my visit it even appeared like the good Lord himself was helping us out with inspection!

As the build progresses there will be a lot of other contractors who will be coming on site over the next while to look after the integration of the control and instrumentation and hydraulic systems. I look forward to my next visit to BiFab and I will post a progress update. Oh, and if you are ever down at BiFab? I can recommend the cafe at the top of the hill where you will get a mean egg sandwich for £1!
