Detailed numerical modelling of the Oyster® desalinator has been completed, enabling its performance to be estimated, and an optimum configuration of the plant to be calculated.
In 2008, a laboratory-scale model of the reverse-osmosis plant is being built and tested to validate performance predictions. Detailed design of the specialised feed-water filters and energy recovery technology, together with cost engineering will enable a full-scale prototype of the plant to be designed.
The full-scale prototype will then be connected to a standard Oyster® oscillator and tested in real sea conditions. The performance of the system will then be measured and the design refined to maximise the production of freshwater by the Oyster® desalinator.
