Manufacturing Manager, Edinburgh
The Manufacturing Manager will be critical to
Aquamarine Power delivering on its cost reduction targets
while maintaining quality specification, schedule and budget.
Through their fabrication experience, the Manufacturing Manager
will provide direct input, and set up suitable systems and
processes, to ensure cost-effective and timely completion of all
fabrication contracts. Responsibilities include the
suitability of design for manufacture, identification, selection of
fabrication contractors, successful management of contracts, and
ensuring the successful completion against defined criteria.
The successful candidate will be responsible for
preparing Aquamarine Power for scaling up manufacturing
operations to meet business plan targets.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the
following:
Design
• Working with the design team (both external and internal)
to challenge the constructability of the design during all phases
of the design from concept to FEED and the detailed design
phase of the project to ensure fit for purpose design and to ensure
that the design allows cost-effective and timely manufacture and
fabrication.
• Reviews scopes of work to identify key deliverables in terms
of design for manufacture and installation, prior to the
commencement of detailed design.
• Take a proactive approach to ensure that fabrication safety
is incorporated into the design and adopting the principle of
inherent safety wherever possible.
• Implement management systems to ensure appropriate
consideration of fabrication in all phases of the design
process.
Procurement
• Prepare fabrication scopes of work with the engineering
team, and review and approve where required.
• Thorough and in-depth understanding of the sequencing of the
fabrication process and the project schedule, influence the
procurement process to ensure cost, schedule and quality targets
are achieved.
• Assist the procurement team and advise on fabrication tender
lists, enquiries, quotations and bidding process.
• Advise procurement throughout the tendering process in
relation to all aspects of fabrication details.
• With the Management Team, agree and approve selection of
fabrication contracts.
Fabrication
• Support the Project Manager throughout the fabrication
phase of the project on all aspects of change control and variation
documentation.
• Responsibility for the logistics of assembly from
multiple fabricators.
• Working closely with the Project Manager and Fabrication
Contractor to ensure the fabrication schedule is updated and
maintained, and advise on corrective action where potential delays
have been identified.
• Optimize all fabrication processes and advise on work
opportunities to improve cost, quality and schedule.
• Carry out random inspections to ensure Contractor is
fulfilling contractual requirements. Raises and ensures NCRs are
closed satisfactorily.
• Audit fabricator performance against contract.
• Review Contractor's procedures and provides comments for
incorporation.
• In conjunction with the Quality Manager and on-site Quality
Inspectors, witness, monitor and review all aspects of fabrication
activities against specification.

The successful candidate will have the following skills,
experience and knowledge:
• Extensive experience managing lump sum fabrication
contracts, ideally including project management on behalf of the
fabricator and the client
• Extensive on site experience with large steel Fabrication
Contractors, including work as a client representative
• Experience of working on site with fabrication in non-steel
materials, such as composites
• Experience in lump sum contracts
• Familiar with fabricator quality control and
inspection
• Experience working with small, multi-disciplinary
teams
• Development of fabrication quality and management
systems
• Strong communication skills and the ability to build
relationships with Fabrication Contractors
• Excellent problem solving skills
• Structured and disciplined approach to work
• Self-motivated
• Team-working skills
• Experience of scaling up manufacturing operations

Other stuff you need to know
As Manufacturing Manager you will be based in our head office in
Edinburgh but you should expect some travel to our offices in
Belfast, Orkney and possibly other locations.
