Senior Hydraulic Engineer, Edinburgh

The Senior Hydraulic Engineer will provide Aquamarine Power with hydraulic engineering expertise to enable the development, design and construction of marine energy devices in a safe, timely and cost effective fashion. Leading a small hydraulic engineering team working on the design and implementation on the Oyster hydraulic power-take-off system, the Senior Hydraulic Engineer will be responsible for assisting in the design, procurement, installation and operation of hydraulic control systems and implementing best practice quality management for all hydraulics engineering activities.  The Senior Hydraulic Engineer will be responsible for:

•    Ensuring the hydraulic system design is safe and fit for purpose
•    Maintaining and developing numerical Matlab/Simulink models of the hydraulic system
•    Preparing procurement specifications for hydraulic system and components
•    Liaising with the procurement team with regard to supply chain management for hydraulic system procurement contracts
•    Assisting in the supervision of manufacturing, installation, testing and commissioning contracts
•    Developing and supervising testing and commissioning procedures
•    Reviewing operational data and ensure that data, experience and lessons learned is implemented in new design activities
•    Managing external design studies and contracts by specialist consultants
•    Ensuring timely and efficient operational support throughout device lifetime

The Senior Hydraulic Engineer role involves interfacing with senior managers, the project team and other disciplines within the business as well as building and managing relationships with external contractors.  This role demands excellent communication and organisation skills.

These are the essential's we are looking for in our successful candidate...
•    A qualified engineer with significant engineering experience
•    Experience with Matlab / Simulink software to model hydraulic systems
•    Experience managing suppliers and engineering contractors
•    Experience in specifying design and delivery of hydraulic components and subsystems
•    Sound background on hydraulic system design, layout and cost implications
•    Piping and pipeline design and stress analysis experience (especially offshore pipelines)
•    Familiar with hydraulic control/actuation systems
•    Hands-on experience of hydraulic commissioning and testing

We would prefer you to have experience in the following areas, although it's not essential...
•    Some experience of water hydraulics
•    Control system layout and instrumentation
•    Reciprocating systems and/or large hydraulic cylinders
•    Pelton-wheel turbines

You will be based in our head office in Edinburgh but your role will involve travel to our offices in Belfast, Orkney and possibly other locations. Your salary will be competitive and will reflect your expertise.
