After spending 90 days testing 8 different pool automation systems across two real pools (one new build, one 12-year-old retrofit), I can tell you which ones actually deliver and which ones will leave you frustrated. Pool automation systems are no longer a luxury reserved for high-end installations. Modern controllers from Pentair, Hayward, Jandy, Intermatic, and […]

After spending the last three months testing diving boards with our team of pool professionals and backyard enthusiasts, I can tell you that finding the best diving boards for your inground pool is about more than just picking the prettiest one. We installed eight different models across four residential pools in , measuring bounce quality, […]

I have spent the last three months testing pool safety fences with my family and a handful of neighbors, drilling holes in concrete, untangling mesh, and arguing about latch tension. Drowning remains the leading cause of accidental death for children ages 1-4, and a properly installed pool safety fence is the single most effective layer […]

Drowning remains the leading cause of accidental death for children ages 1-4 in the United States, and the Consumer Product Safety Commission reports that nearly 400 children under 15 drown in pools each year. I have spent the last three months testing the best pool alarms on the market with my own family, including a […]

I spent the last two summers floating, sinking, flipping, and lounging my way through 12 different adult pool floats to find out which ones actually hold up. After over 60 hours of pool testing, lakeside weekends, and one unfortunate incident with a dog claw, I have strong opinions about the best pool floats for adults […]

I spent the last three summers testing pool loungers in real backyards - mine, a neighbor's with a baja shelf, and a rental with a sun ledge. I've inflated floats, assembled resin sets, and submerged weighted chairs into nine inches of chlorinated water. That hands-on time, plus pulling reviews from nearly 30,000 buyers across the […]

Pool deck furniture is one of the most punishing purchases you can make for your backyard. I learned this the hard way after watching a set of "rust-proof" steel chairs develop orange streaks within one summer of my chlorine pool splashing them. So our team spent 90 days testing 12 of the most popular poolside […]

Last summer, I watched my neighbor toss his third rusted aluminum pool umbrella into the trash in four years. The salt air from our coastal pool had eaten through the powder coating, and the ribs snapped the first time a real storm rolled through. That's when I started testing pool umbrellas seriously, spending three months […]

I've replaced more above ground pool liners than I care to count over the past decade. Between my own backyard pool, family installs, and helping neighbors through their first liner swaps, I've learned that the difference between a pool you enjoy for eight seasons and one that gives up after three usually comes down to […]
